The Origin of Tapas
Tapas originated in the Andalusian region of Spain, the Spanish word 'Tapa' meaning lid or cover. A 'Tapa' being used to cover the wine glass preventing fruit flies and dust contaminating the contents.
Tapas were originally thin slices of cheese or ham placed on top of the glass but as the range of Tapas became more diverse small plates, which could hold a variety of appetizers, replaced these. This enabled bars to compete and produce their particular 'Tapa' specialties the choice of Tapas was radically expanded to a new range of foods.
Almost any small portion of food served to accompany a glass of wine; a cold beer or other cool refreshing and beverage can be a 'Tapa'. Tapas can be served hot or cold, the variety is virtually limitless and is no longer confined to the traditional foods of Spain; in particular Asian style Tapas are becoming increasingly popular.
Tapas Bar serves an increasing and diverse range of Tapas, also providing a full menu in the upstairs restaurant. Traditional Spanish favourites include, tortillas, albondigas, seafood, lamb, pork & chicken specialties, fresh salads and of course paella.
Take a break from the heat & humidity of Taipei City, step into the cool interior of a little piece of Spain in the Tapas Bar and Restaurant. Let yourself be enticed by the tempting aroma of garlic, herbs & olive oil. Enjoy a glass or two of wine, or a cold beer, enjoy the tantalizing taste of Tapas; you won't be disappointed.
